2. Pool Safety Self-Inspection Checklist

   1. Is there a fence that separated the pool from the house or common area?
   2. If the fence doesn’t separate the pool from the house, do doors or windows leading to the swimming area have locks and alarms that are out of a child’s reach?
   3. Is the fence at least 4 feet high with vertical bars that children can’t climb?
   4. If not a key lock, is the gate latch out of reach of young children? (e.g. 4 feet above ground)
   5. Are there objects away from the fence to prevent climbing around the area? (i.e. chairs, tables, toys, etc.…)
   6. Are there any trees, bushes, or other things that might block a clear view of the pool from the house?
   7. If the pool has a diving board, is the depth at least 8 feet at the deepest end?
   8. Is the pool depth marked on the pool deck or walls?
   9. Are there ladders or steps at each end of the pool?
   10. Is the water level 3-4 inches from the top to make climbing out easier?
   11. Do you have rescue equipment near the pool? (i.e. a life ring on a rope or a long-handled hook?)
   12. Are adult family members/caretakers trained in CPR?
   13. Are pool chemicals and supplies locked up?
   14. Is supervision planned for all pool activities?
