Town Encourages Residents to Research Companies Selling Water Quality Tests

Town of Flower Mound Water Tower

Please be aware of recent “Test My Water” social media posts that solicit visits to a website, where one can purchase “testing” products. First, the Town of Flower Mound’s drinking water meets or exceeds all federal (EPA) drinking water requirements and is safe to drink. In addition, Flower Mound’s public water system continues to be rated “superior” by the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality.

Each year, residents are contacted by companies, claiming their drinking water needs to be tested by an outside source. These companies are usually trying to sell consumers an unnecessary and expensive filtration system for their home. This company has advertised the same sales pitch and products to several other North Texas cities.

The company states it is supported by the Texas Water Utilities Association (TWUA). When contacted, the TWUA confirmed the organization has no affiliation with this company. In addition, the company’s contact information and location are missing from the Test My Water website.

The Town of Flower Mound conducts more than 80 bacteriological tests each month to insure the water is safe to drink. Those samples are also tested for chlorine, ammonia, monochloramine, and nitrites. In fact, the chlorine levels are tested more than 200 times a month. The Town has released its annual water report, which is available online.
