No. 1 'Best Place to Live in Texas'

Flower Mound is the No. 1 “Best Place to Live in Texas,” according to real estate and mortgage lending company Rocket. Flower Mound was picked as the top spot after Rocket analyzed 70 of the most populated cities in Texas using 11 different metrics, including crime and unemployment rates, median rent and monthly income, housing costs, and more. Flower Mound was ranked #1 in all of Texas thanks to the following measurements:

  • No. 1 lowest property crime rate
  • No. 2 lowest violent crime rate
  • No. 3 best housing cost to income ratio at 17.7 percent
  • No. 3 best well-being index
  • No. 5 lowest unemployment rate at 3.6 percent

No. 4 'Most Livable Small City'

Flower Mound is the No. 4 “Most Livable Small City in the U.S.,” according to a study by SmartAsset, an online personal finance company. Researchers examined cities with populations between 65,000 and 100,000, comparing several key factors, including housing costs as a percentage of median income, unemployment rates, dining options, and commute times. This is the second year in a row Flower Mound held on to the #4 spot. We're also the only Texas community in the top 30. The full study can be read online.

Flower Mound is the No. 1 'Safest Place in Texas'

Flower Mound is the safest place in Texas, according to background screening service GoodHire. For their report, GoodHire compared FBI data on property, violent, and society crime in cities of all 50 states. In Texas, they found Flower Mound to be the safest locality with a population greater than 30,000. GoodHire says Flower Mound is exceptionally rated for all three crime types and should be viewed as one of the safest places to live and work.

Achievement in Excellence of Libraries Award

For the 19th consecutive year, the Flower Mound Public Library received the ‘Achievement of Excellence in Libraries’ award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association. The award is given to libraries that demonstrate consistent excellence and outstanding contributions to public library services in their communities. Mayor France and Town Council recognized our amazing Library staff who continue to enrich the lives of residents with outstanding and innovative services.

Planning Division Wins State Award

The Town’s Planning Division was awarded the 2022 Certificate of Achievement from the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association's Planning Excellence Program. This is the third year in a row the Town has received this honor. Flower Mound is one of only 44 Texas cities to receive this recognition in 2022.

The certificate recognizes the professional planning standards demonstrated by the Town's planning staff and the support provided by the Town Council and Planning and Zoning Commission. Additionally, the Town met the Chapter's goals for increasing awareness of professional planning by meeting a variety of professional requirements.

Fleet Division Earns Bronze Fleet Recognition Award

The Town of Flower Mound took home the Bronze Fleet Recognition Award from the DFW Clean Cities Coalition. The award recognizes Fleet Divisions that work toward reducing petroleum use and improving air quality.

The Town of Flower Mound was one of 21 localities recognized. We're aiming for GOLD in 2023! The Town also received a Shining Star recognition for our efficiency strategies. Congratulations to our awesome Fleet team, and thank you for everything you do behind the scenes to keep our Town running!

The Town of Flower Mound Earns Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

For the 30th consecutive year, the Town of Flower Mound has earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).  

The award, which the Town received for the 2021-22 Fiscal Year Budget, represents a significant achievement for Flower Mound and reflects the commitment of Town staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the Town had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.

Communications Department Earns 22 State Awards

The Town’s Communications Department recently won 22 state awards from the Texas Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (TATOA), including the Overall Excellence award for departments with an operating budget below $250,000. Here’s a full list of the award-winning video work:

2022 Preservation Achievement Award

Flower Mound's Parks and Recreation Department accepted the 2022 Preservation Achievement Award for its work restoring and preserving the Gibson-Grant Log House. The award comes from Preservation Dallas, a nonprofit dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of historic buildings, neighborhoods, and places. 

In 2021, the Town completed restoration work on the Gibson-Grant Log House, and in partnership with the Denton County Office of History and Culture, began offering free tours to the public. The Flower Mound Communications Department brought home two trophies from the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) Conference last week.

Communications Department Earns National Awards

Flower Mound’s Communications Department recently received two awards from the City-County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA). The Savvy Awards, held in conjunction with 3CMA’s annual conference, recognize outstanding local government achievements in communications, public-sector marketing, and citizen-government relationships.

The Flower Mound Communications Department won a first-place award in the “One Time Special Programming” category for its videos introducing Flower Mound’s School Resource Officers. Flower Mound Fire Department Earns Achievement Award from the American Heart Association

For the third consecutive year, the Flower Mound Fire Department has received the Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Plus achievement award from the American Heart Association.  The award designates the Fire Department as an elite group of prehospital providers and acknowledges the department’s commitment to offering rapid, research-based care to people experiencing heart attacks. 

Mission: Lifeline EMS is a program designed to showcase and recognize emergency medical service (EMS) organizations across the nation for excellent care. Often, EMS personnel are the first providers of care to patients suffering from cardiac emergencies. Their role, and ability to quickly recognize heart attacks in the field and begin appropriate treatment on the way to the hospital, is crucial and can set the course for the patient’s outcome. We are so grateful for the hardworking EMS professionals at the Flower Mound Fire Department!

Heritage Park Named Living Magazine's 'Best City Park'

Heritage Park was voted the "Best City Park" in the 2022 Living Magazine Best of Flower Mound Readers' Choice publication. The annual "Best Of" edition asked Living Magazine readers to cast votes to help determine the best in dining, entertainment, healthcare, retail, and more in our area.

'Best of Denton County' Winners

Flower Mound Police Officer Patrick Johnson, the Flower Mound Fire Department, and Mayor Derek France are all winners of the 2022 Best of Denton County award. Officer Johnson was voted "Best Police Officer," the Flower Mound Fire Department was voted "Best Fire Station," and Mayor France was voted "Best Mayor."

The “Best Of” edition asked residents to cast votes in multiple categories to help determine the best in everything from education, to beauty and wellness, to dining, entertainment, retail, and more. Officer Buck and the Flower Mound Fire Department were nominated and collected the most resident votes in the Community and Non-Profit category. Flower Mound is the No. 4 "Best Suburb to Buy a House in the DFW Area," according to Niche, an online resource with comprehensive report cards  and rankings on U.S. neighborhoods, schools, and more. Researchers based the findings off of key factors, including home values, taxes, crime rates, and quality of local schools, and real estate trends from the U.S. Census and other data sources. Flower Mound is the No. 8 "Place with the Best Public Schools in Texas," according to Niche, an online research tool with comprehensive report cards, rankings, and reviews on U.S. neighborhoods, schools, and more. Researchers based their 2022 findings on state test scores, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores, teacher quality, and reviews from students and parents. You can read the full report online

Flower Mound is the No. 10 "Best Suburb to Raise a Family in Texas," according to Niche, an online research tool with comprehensive report cards, rankings, and reviews on U.S. neighborhoods, schools, and more. Researchers ranked cities by many key factors, including quality of local schools, safety, affordability, and access to family amenities. You can read the full report online

Flower Mound is the No. 14 “Safest City in Texas,” according to SafeWise, an online resource for all things safety and security. Researchers based the findings off of FBI crime report statistics and population data. Since the last report was released in 2021, the Town jumped 11 spots in the rankings. Flower Mound is the only locality in the top 15 with a population over 55,000.
