Forest Vista Drive Reconstruction Project Phase II (Morriss to Chancellor)

Project Update

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 12, Forest Vista Drive will be reduced to one lane during the final phase of work, which includes restoration of the parkway, improvements to the median, and site clean-up. The lane reductions will occur as work items dictate along Forest Vista Drive, between Lake Forest Boulevard and Morriss Road. The work is expected to be complete Friday, Nov. 12.

Why this Project is Needed

Staff has identified pavement failures along Forest Vista Drive, which will worsen over time. Forest Vista Drive also has poor drainage in some areas. The water line along Forest Vista Drive will be replaced because of its age and past maintenance issues.

Project Limits

The Forest Vista Drive project spans from Chancellor Drive to Morriss Road. The project consists of a complete reconstruction of the four-lane divided roadway and replacement of a 12-inch water main.

Forest Vista Drive Project Scope

Reconstruction Process

  • Traffic controliImplementation – lane closures are required in construction zone
  • Tree removal as required – trees within street right-of-way, which are in close proximity to street pavement or sidewalk will need to be removed since the trees will have their root structures damaged from construction or the trees will damage the new pavement
  • Pavement removal – demolition of existing pavement
  • Underground utility work – existing utilities may need to be adjusted due to the street reconstruction project
  • Water main installation – a new 12-inch water main will be installed with Phase 1
  • Subgrade placement and stabilization – pavement subgrade consisting of clay soils require lime stabilization to enhance the engineering properties of the soil
  •  Pavement and sidewalk placement – new concrete
  • Traffic control relocation or removal – lane closures will move with phasing
  • Landscaping, irrigation, and final clean-up

Project Phasing/Traffic Control

  • Phase 1 – Includes water line installation and pavement reconstruction of both eastbound lanes from Chancellor Drive to west of Morriss Road
  • Phase 2 – Pavement reconstruction of inner westbound and eastbound lanes and left turn lane of Forest Vista Drive between Glen Vista Court/Upton Lane and Morriss Road
  • Phase 3 – Pavement reconstruction of both westbound lanes of Forest Vista Drive between Chancellor Drive and Glen Vista Court and outer westbound lane between Glen Vista Court and Morriss Road
  • Phase 4 – Pavement reconstruction of the western halves of the Chancellor Drive and Glen Vista Court intersections along westbound Forest Vista Drive
  • Crews will construct sidewalks and ramps at the end of phases or after completion of street reconstruction. The contractor will not construct sidewalks on both sides of Forest Vista Drive simultaneously.
  • Drivers will have access to neighborhoods throughout the duration of construction, although detours may be required
  • Please note, project phasing is subject to change at any time during construction
