Summer Reading Challenge Kickoff!

Come to the Library for fun, games, and crafts to celebrate the start of the Summer Reading Challenge! Library staff will be available to assist you in registering for the Summer Reading Challenge.

June 15, 3 p.m.: ScienceTellers
Aliens have crash-landed, and it's up to you to rescue them before they're captured! Join this interactive story, complete with special effects made from science experiments. For all ages. June 29, 2 p.m.: Elvis Tribute Concert

July 24, 7 p.m.: HarpEssence

July 31, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.: Blackland Prairie Raptor Center
Each day and night the raptors are on patrol. Their mission: finding a meal. How do they do it? Discover their unique adaptations to hunt in woodland, wetlands and prairies. There’s no better way to learn about the birds of prey in North Texas than to meet them in person! Learn more about the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center http://www.bpraptorcenter.org/. Tickets are required for this event. Tickets will be available beginning at 9 a.m. on the day of the event.

Wondrous Wednesdays for All Ages

Wednesdays in June and July at 7 p.m. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
Entertainment the whole family will enjoy.

June 5: Space Movie Night
Bring the family, and we'll bring the popcorn for a showing of Space Jam.

June 12: Sci-Fi Trivia Night, Episode I
How much do you know about science fiction movies and television? Bring a team and test your knowledge! Questions will cover sci-fi movies and television for kids, teens, and adults. One lucky team will walk away with a prize. Teams who attend the second round in July will be eligible for a grand prize. Refreshments will be provided.

June 19: Family Storytime: Pirates
Get ready to do some timber shivering! Gather up your hearties for stories, songs, and crafts. Grownups caught talking may have to walk the plank!

June 26: Family Craft Night
Make something out of this world! Join us for a night of crafts where there is something for all ages. While the kids are busy making their own thing, adults will have a craft of their own.

July 3: Space Movie Night
Join us for the last in our space-themed movie series for A Wrinkle in Time.

July 10: Sci-Fi Trivia Night, Episode II
Bring your team back for a second round to test your science fiction book trivia knowledge. Questions will cover sci-fi books written for kids, teens, and adults. One team will walk away with the night's prize, and teams who attend both rounds in June and July will be eligible to win a grand prize.

Thrilling Thursdays for ages 4 and up

Thursdays in June and July at 2 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.

  • Seating is limited; tickets are required for admission
  • Tickets are free and issued first-come, first-served at the Youth Services Desk beginning at 9 a.m. on show days
  • A valid Flower Mound Public Library card must be presented to receive tickets
  • Limit of eight tickets per group
  • Children must be age 4 or older to attend.Children are encouraged to attend alone, if possible, to maximize the number of spaces for children. If children attend alone, a responsible person age 14 or over must stay in the Library
  • Parents and younger siblings under age 4 may wait in the Library where there will be activities for younger children

Share your love for your favorite books and authors with others. Dessert and beverages will be served. For ages 18+.

June 17, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.: Create a Beaded Bookmark
Join us to make a beaded bookmark, then put your new creation to use during our summer reading challenge or give it as a gift. Local craft teacher Sharon Oels Martyn will demonstrate how to create the colorful bookmark using a shepherd's hook, beads, and charms. For ages 13+. Registration required.

July 15, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.: Create a Macramé Wall Hanging
Library staff will cover tips, tricks, and show how to make the knot patterns in the piece. For ages 13+. Registration required.
