Flower Mound Public Works Earns Prestigious Accreditation
Becoming the eighth agency in Texas and only the 107th in the U.S. to earn this achievement, the Town of Flower Mound Public Works Department recently received the prestigious Full Accreditation from the American Public Works Association. This accreditation is the result of four years of hard work to perform a self-assessment, inventory the organization’s practices, identify strengths and opportunities for improvement, and then document all policies, processes, and procedures.
Throughout the process, Public Works staff worked with the Engineering, Capital Improvement Program, Human Resources, Finance, Emergency Management, IT, and Facilities personnel, along with the Utilities, Transportation, and Street and Drainage divisions. The support of Town leaders was also critical to earning the accreditation.
“The American Public Works Full Accreditation has many benefits to our department and Town alike,” said Public Works Executive Director Kenneth Parr. “By reviewing and evaluating our processes, we were able to correct inefficiencies and improve upon existing documented practices. Considering there are more than 33,000 communities in the country, to be the 107th agency accredited is its own recognition of commitment and professionalism.”
The Public Works Department was recognized by the Town Council and the American Public Works Association during the April 4 Town Council meeting.
