Trash Service

Waste Management provides weekly, semi-automated trash collection services utilizing 95-gallon polycarts. Semi-automated service ensures a collection specialist will follow each truck on foot to assist the automated service, minimizing spillage and missed trash.

Tips to ensure a smooth collection process:

  • Have your trash and recycling carts curbside by 7 a.m. on your collection day, and, according to Town Ordinance, no earlier than 8 a.m. the day before and no later than 8 a.m. on the day after your collection day.
  • All trash items must be inside the cart and weigh no more than 175 lbs to ensure collection.
  • Contents should be bagged and lids closed to avoid littering.
  • Proper placement of your cart is within two feet of the edge of the street and handles should face your house, where the lid opens to the street
  • The Postmaster requires carts to be placed far enough away from the mailbox so the carrier can access the mailbox without interference.

If your trash or recycling cart is in need of repair or replacement, please contact the Town of Flower Mound Customer Relations Department at 972.539.SERV (7378) or complete the online request form. Please view the map below to determine your designated collection day. A larger version of the map can be downloaded by clicking on the map or by visiting the Trash/Recycling/Bulk Collection Street Index.

Recycling Service

Monthly service includes weekly semi-automated recycling collection utilizing 95-gallon polycarts. Recycling polycarts will be picked up by a different truck on your collection day. All items are separated at the Waste Management recycling facility, eliminating the need to sort recyclable materials.

The Eligible Recyclable Materials list has been expanded to include milk and juice cartons, drink boxes without straws, and additional plastics. Kitchen waste, yard waste, car tires, and batteries of all types will not be accepted by Waste Management personnel. Please visit Recycle Texas Online to find a recycler that accepts items not included on the Eligible Recyclable Materials list. Local recycling sources can also be found for some household items, clothing, automotive parts, and construction materials at www.kfmb.org/home/recycle_options.

Bulk and Brush Pick-up

As an enhanced service, customers receive weekly, curbside bulk and brush collection on standard collection days. Bulk items must be no longer than 3'x 3'x 6.' Acceptable items include yard waste, appliances, furniture, and other household items such as water heaters and toilets.

Appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners that contain Freon, PCB, or other liquid or gaseous compounds must have that product removed by a certified technician who places a special tag on the item prior to collection. Hazardous or electronic waste will not be collected with regular bulk trash.

Bulk items that exceed the size allotment can be collected by calling Waste Management Customer Service at 972.315.5400 to schedule an extra pick-up. The charge for a special pick-up is $75 per hour, with a one-hour minimum, and $12.50 for each 10-minute increment thereafter. Payment is made directly to Waste Management.

Brush must be bundled and cannot exceed four feet, 50 pounds or two cubic yards. Residents may also request on-demand bulk pick-up. To obtain a quote and schedule an appointment, please call 972.315.5400.

Holiday Schedule for Trash/Recycling/Bulk

If a holiday recognized by the Town of Flower Mound occurs during the work week, trash, recycling, and bulk collection schedules will be delayed one day, with collections being completed on Saturday (with the exception of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday and Good Friday). For more information regarding holiday closures, please visit http://www.flower-mound.com/holidayclosings.php or call 972.539.SERV (7378).

Household Hazardous Waste "At Your Door Program" and E-Waste Collection

Residents now have door-to-door service for Household Hazardous Waste and E-Waste collections by calling 1.800.449.7587 or emailing atyourdoor@wm.com to schedule a collection. Please review the eligible material list. Please note some restrictions may apply and pickup schedules may vary depending upon demand.

The DFW Landfill

Customers may also dispose of waste from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the DFW Landfill, 1600-C Railroad St. in Lewisville. Flower Mound residents receive discounted rates of $15 per pick-up load or the equivalent in volume (approximately 3 cubic yards). Loads in excess of 3 cubic yards, or waste transported by trailers, will be subject to additional fees. There is an additional charge for non-compactable items such as bricks, concrete, and composition shingles. The discounted Flower Mound resident rate is not for commercial use and residents must provide proof of residency with their driver's license, or a photo I.D. accompanied with a utility bill with a Flower Mound address. The photo I.D. must reflect the same resident name as the bill. Please note the discounted rate of $15.00 is only applicable on Saturdays (a rate of $80.00 is charged Monday-Friday). Residents may also utilize bulk pick-up days or special paid bulk pick-up services to dispose of household items.

For visitor expediency, residents may utilize the Customer Convenience Station at the DFW Landfill to dispose of their refuse. Entering the actual landfill is not required. Please call 972.315.5400 for information regarding residency requirements and items eligible for disposal.

Please note that the DFW Landfill is subject to state rules, regulations, and enforcement which may result in fines or additional fees for violations (i.e., use of a tarp to cover debris). Please contact the landfill for detailed information.
