Water Conservation
Water Conservation - Water Quality Report - Water Use Ordinance

It is time to implement our annual water conservation program. The Town ordinance states that all persons using water for lawns, gardens or irrigation shall refrain from watering DAILY between the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from May 1 to October 31 (watering before/after these hours is permitted).

This water conservation program is intended to reduce peak day usage of water. Weekend peak consumption reaches very high levels during the summer months. The Town of Flower Mound purchases water from the City of Dallas and the Upper Trinity Regional Water District through a two-part rate structure. The first charge is a flat rate per 1,000 gallons of water consumed. The second charge is a demand charge, which is the cost of water reserved for the maximum daily peak usage during a year. The water conservation program is an attempt to reduce peak days of use during the summer, thus eliminating the need to pay for a higher demand level of water from Dallas.

The Town urges compliance with the water conservation regulations to avoid necessary enforcement action and penalties. Enforcement personnel will patrol the Town between the restricted watering hours. Upon observing a violation, enforcement personnel may issue a citation that will be prosecuted in Municipal Court. Upon conviction of such violation, a fine may be assessed up to $500.

The Town also has brochures and information regarding topics such as lawn watering, outdoor and indoor water conservation, and what you can do to help conserve water. Please stop by the Customer Service Division at Town Hall to pick up these brochures.

Besides saving you money, water conservation is environmentally sound. Wise usage preserves one of our most precious commodities, especially during the Texas summer heat. Your cooperation is the key to the success or failure of the program.
