Wednesday, April 25 • 12:30 p.m.  Attend a Free Family History Workshop for Beginners. The workshop will be conducted by an experienced family history consultant. The Women Who Wrote The War

Monday, May 7 • 2 p.m.  Mary Booty, a professional book reviewer and SIM member, will present this riveting program, based on the book by Nancy Sorel about the dedicated and courageous women war correspondents during WWII (this program that will appeal to both men & women).  Lunch & Learn Life Fitness Seminar  

Wednesday, May 9 • 12 p.m.  Join us for a seminar that covers three aspects of life. My Fit Foods will be onsite to answer questions about healthy food choices; an Elder Care Lawyer will be here to provide resources for those needing legal advice; and Jim Dean, formerly of Flower Mound UMC will be discussing what funeral arrangements are all about and what is involved .  Senior Housing at Lakeside DFW 

Wednesday, May 16 • 12:30 p.m.  Join us to discuss the senior living option at the new Lakeside DFW project located at FM 2499 and Lakeside Parkway on the eastern shores of Lake Grapevine in Flower Mound. Lakeside DFW is planned to be a 155 acres mixed-used project with retail, restaurant, hotel, office, and residential uses. The developer is looking for feedback/ideas from senior citizens on what they would like have in a senior residential project. Register at the Senior Center Front Desk.

This seminar will focus on community resources available to the seniors and their families who often struggle with ever-changing healthcare options. Door prizes will be given away. Wednesday, May 30 • 12 p.m.  VETERAN S! There is no free funeral. There are many myths about veteran’s burial benefits. This seminar will educate you so you do not make a costly mistake, and not let you know of any benefits you are entitled to. Wednesday, June 6 • 12 p.m.  This seminar is an informative, practical workshop to suggest you things you can do at home to improve your health. The informative lecture allows the participants to discover the 3 types of stress that affects the body and simple things you can do at work or home to reduce the negative effects of stress.  Educational Seminar on Ethical Wills

Wednesday, June 20 12:30 p.m.  Ethical Will is a means of passing along the wishes, prayers, and desires you have for future generations. Will they remember your Valuables or your Values? Each participant will receive a workbook that will help them recall childhood memories, favorite stories and special life events. This workbook will help organize their thoughts for the writing process. Please register at the Senior Center Front Desk.

Lunch & Learn Financial Seminar    

Wednesday, June 27 • 10:30 a.m.United Financial Services will be speaking about Investments that are safe, catastrophic illness planning and understanding annuities. We will also discuss any changes that may affect Seniors in 2012. Free lunches will be provided if you register by Tuesday, June 26. Please register at the Senior Center Front Desk.

 

Computer Classes

Registration for computer classes will begin on Thursday, April 26 at 9 a.m. Classes are free and space is limited.

Intro to Facebook     

Mondays, May 14 & 21 • 11 a.m. • FREE.  Learn the basics of Facebook. Facebook is a social media website that allows you to reconnect with family, friends, and groups. Some computer experience is necessary for this class.

Intro to Computers    

Wednesdays, June 6, 13, & 20 • 1 p.m. • FREE.  Learn how to work a computer. Class will include the basic terminology, how to get started and resources that you can use in the future.

Intro to Words With Friends    

Friday, May 11 10 a.m • FREE.  Learn how to play the hit game “Words With Friends”.  This game similar to Scrabble is played via Facebook or smart phone. A smartphone or facebook account is necessary for this class.

Intro to smartphones      

Friday, June 1 10 A.M. • FREE.  Learn the basics of using a smartphone. Class will include the basic terminology, how to download applications and helpful hints on using your phone.

Arts & Craft Classes

Intro to Watercolors        

Thursdays, 1 – 3 p.m. • $30/session • All supplies are included.    May 10  & 17.  This class is open to beginners who want to learn how to paint with Watercolors. Class fee covers all supplies. Instructor Anita Robbins has several years experience teaching arts and water coloring. Please register at the Senior Center Front Desk.

Intro to Acrylics    

Thursdays, 1 – 3 p.m. • $30/session • All supplies are included.  June 7 & 14.  This class is open to beginners who want to learn how to paint with Acrylics. Class fee covers all supplies. Anita Robbins, instructor, has several years experience teaching arts and acrylics. Acrylic paints can resemble an oil painting and have unique characteristics. Jewelry Making Class        

Mondays, June 11 & 25 • 1 – 3 p.m.  Cost is $10/class plus cost of beads. Pay instructor prior to class start time.

Card Stamping        

Wednesdays, May 9  & June 13 • 10 a.m. • $8 per class.  A Stampin’ Up professional will assist with creating six special personal cards for family and friends. Fee includes supplies.
