The Texas Department of Insurance, in conjunction with major insurance companies have agreed on certain criteria which will allow citizens to obtain a discount of up to 20% off their homeowner's insurance premium. To monitor this program, local police officers receive training which enables them to inspect a residence and provide documentation showing compliance with these criteria. All a citizen needs to do is contact the Police Department and schedule an appointment. The inspection costs nothing except a little of your time. Our inspectors will come to your residence and provide a complete security survey of you property in addition to explaining the insurance reduction programs. Once all criteria have been met, the officers will submit appropriate paperwork to the Department of Insurance so that you may receive your reductions.
Neighborhood Watch and Homeowner's Association: 972-874-3357 This is a community program which operates with police guidance and support. The program is a very good one for improving the cohesiveness of a neighborhood as well as making it a better and safer place to live. It is really a collaboration between the community and the police department to insure every effort is made to keep the area a safe friendly place to live. If you live in a neighborhood that has a watch program in effect, we recommend you contact your local coordinator or block captain to join. If you do not have an established neighborhood watch program, contact the Police Department to obtain assistance in starting one. To get started talk with a few of your neighbors and find out if you have enough interested residents to get a watch started. To have a viable watch, you need a minimum of 50% of the residents to participate (although you don't need them all to show up for your meeting to start things off). Then pick a time and place to hold a meeting. Call our office and schedule to have one of our officers come out and provide an overview of the program and explain what you need to do to form your neighborhood watch. Our officer will explain all criteria, have some handouts for everyone in attendance, and answer any questions. Once you have met the criteria, the police department will have your watch signs installed at all entrances to your community. This will let everyone know that you have a neighborhood watch in effect. In addition, the Police department is available to meet with your Homeowner's Association to discuss crime prevention in your neighborhood.
The Flower Mound Police Department is in the process of developing a new method of communicating critical incident information to each Homeowners’ Association and Neighborhood Watch. By providing updated contact information, the Police Department can ensure timely communication of important information to your group. Please have the appropriate contact fill out the form below that pertains to your group.

In addition to the neighborhood watch programs, our officers can discuss various topics of interest in the crime prevention arena. Some of the topics we cover are personal safety either at home, while driving, while shopping, while on vacation, or while at the ATM machine. All of these programs can be presented either as a single presentation or individually, depending on your needs and time constraints. Again, these presentations are free to our residents. All you need to do is decide what topic you are interested in, contact the Police Department and arrange an appointment at a time and place of your choosing. Contact our office and let us provide whatever topic you need.

This is one of our more popular programs. The Police Department spends many hours each year in our elementary schools teaching this program to our younger residents. We also go to day care centers, the YMCA, churches, or other organizations that request this training for a group of children. The program teaches children who strangers are and how to behave if approached by a stranger. Call to make an appointment.

Another popular program with our elementary school children. The course teaches kids the basics of checking their bicycle's equipment to ensure it is safe to operate. We also focus on correct methods of operating a bicycle including procedures for following the rules of the road while riding. This includes proper hand signals to ensure drivers know what their intentions are. A bicycle rodeo can also be incorporated into this program if sufficient participation and space is available.

An outgrowth of community policing, JPA transforms the traditional role of the police officer into one of mentor and friend, while encouraging our young citizens to be partners, not advisories, in building safer schools and communities. JPA motivates young people to be outstanding citizens through law enforcement education. Targeting middle school students that will be going into the 8th grade, the program is a police academy for young people. JPAs are one week long and are held during the summer. Download a registration form and General Waiver. The Summer 2008 Junior Police Academy is full, and no more applications are being accepted at this time.

Our department strives to provide whatever support our citizens feel they need. If you have a specific topic that you want or need to have presented, then contact us and let us know what it is. If we don't have a program in place, we will do our best to design one which will meet your needs. As the 911 posters say, "Help is just a phone call away!"

The Flower Mound Police Department is currently offering Child Safety Seat Inspections to ensure that your child is secured properly when riding in the family vehicle. We understand the importance of safety when it comes to transporting such valuable cargo. Many people feel that since they have read the installation instructions and the child seems comfortable in the seat, that the child is safe. This is not always the case.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website, “Over the years, local, state and national surveys have been conducted on child safety seat use. They reveal alarming statistics about the safety of children traveling in motor vehicles. Nationally, misuse rates are estimated to be about 80 percent and can be found in all races, socio-economic and educational levels. This means that children traveling in every community across America are being placed at risk for serious injuries or death because they are improperly restrained or not restrained at all. It is understandable that most parents and caregivers need to seek assistance for:
Using the correct child safety seat for the age/size of the child.
Installing the seat correctly.
Placing the child in the seat correctly.
Obtaining information and experience that will lead to self-sufficiency for future use.
The Flower Mound Police Department is committed to the goal of making the youth of our community as safe as possible while traveling our roads. Our agency has specially trained inspectors that hold a national certification specifically related to the installation, inspection and education regarding the proper installment of child restraint systems. Our officers will take the time to observe the child in the seat as it is currently being used, inspect the safety seat and go over proper installation techniques with the parent(s). The process takes about 45 minutes and is free of charge.
