Parks and Recreation
On The Drawing Board
The largest portion of the Town's existing 684.5 acres of parkland has been acquired through the Park Dedication Ordinance which requires parkland to be dedicated as land develops. The current ordinance was adopted on February 17, 2000 (Ord. 13-00) and amended on August 6, 2007. (Ord. 59-07). Highlights include:
- The land dedication requirement is 3.36 acres per 100 residential units based upon the National Recreation and Park Association's standard of 10.5 acres of parkland for each 1,000 population.
- The park dedication fee (or the fee-in-lieu-of land) is an amount equivalent to the fair market value of the amount of land that would have otherwise been required to be dedicated within the proposed development.
- The park development fee is $1,388 per residential unit to ensure that new neighborhood parks are provided with minimum, standard amenities, based upon the amenity cost for a typical 5.0-acre neighborhood park.
- All park land dedication requirements must be satisfied prior to the acceptance of public improvements for the development.
