Hints to help say ‘good-bye’ to mosquitos
The Town of Flower Mound’s Environmental Health Division has some helpful hints to get rid of a familiar warm weather pest – the mosquito – and prevent the spread of the West Nile Virus:
-
Wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts outdoors, especially at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most likely to be out
-
Use an insect repellent containing DEET to help prevent mosquito bites
-
Make sure window and door screens are sealed properly, preventing bugs from making their way into your home
-
Check your property for anything that might hold standing water such as saucers under potted plants, roof gutters, flat roofs, old tires, toys, garbage cans, and dumpsters
-
Use yellow "bug lights" in outdoor lighting fixtures
-
Treat any standing water that can't be drained with BTI (Bacillus Thuringiensis Israelensis), which is an available at most home and garden stores
