The Flower Mound Town Council recently approved an official design for Fort Wildflower, the Town’s first community-built playground. The project will combine nature and fort themes with local historical flavor to create a unique experience for children.
In September, hundreds of community volunteers will come together to build Fort Wildflower. Playground components include a climbing forest, tee pee, rock wall, old town playhouse, tree house, flower chair, and lily pad hops along with numerous slides, swings, and bridges. The volunteer playground steering committee and Town staff worked together to ensure Fort Wildflower will be accessible and enjoyable for all children. This community-built playground will exceed Americans with Disabilities Act standards and will include amenities to challenge children of all abilities.
The playground will be constructed of recycled plastic and wood fiber material that has a life expectancy of approximately 25 years, allowing several generations of local children to enjoy Fort Wildflower. The playground’s design was created with the help of Flower Mound elementary students, who contributed more than 500 ideas to ensure Fort Wildflower is a one-of-a-kind project.
Numerous sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are available to help with this historical project. For more information, please visit www.fortwildflower.com or call 972.874.6342.
