Flower Mound Ranked in Top Ten on List of Digitally-Advanced U.S. Cities

The Town of Flower Mound was recently recognized for the eighth consecutive year as one of the most technologically-advanced cities in the nation by the Center for Digital Government (CDG). The only Texas municipality on the list, Flower Mound ranked No. 10 within the population category of 30,000 to 74,999 on the 2011 list of cities.

According to the CDG, the rankings recognize municipalities that successfully incorporate information technology to better serve constituents and businesses. In addition, the list honors cities that have continued to realize operational objectives despite financial challenges, while strategically investing to maximize dollars and effectively conduct the business of government.

“Cities that are investing in technology are capturing cost savings that are critical to continuity of operations and their ability to meet higher demand for services,” said Todd Sander, director of Digital Communities. “The highest-ranking cities in the survey showed great strides in consolidating and enabling shared services, government transparency and communications interoperability. We applaud these innovators as they work in the spirit of collaboration to provide extraordinary value to constituents despite budget setbacks.”

Flower Mound was specifically recognized for the Town’s public safety global positioning system, disaster recovery fail safes, collaborative software solutions, and green technology initiatives including the virtualization of computer hardware, paperless processes, and centralized data center climate management. In addition, the community continues to receive recognition for progressive digital communication tools including the website, electronic newsletters, and utilizing social media.

Flower Mound has continually appeared within the top 10 cities on the list since the organization began ranking comparable municipalities. The CDG is the premier government technology watch group that tracks and monitors how cities use technology to deliver services to their citizens. The rankings are based on a variety of factors including website features and services, network connectivity methods, data redundancy, network security, and other technological systems.
