Flower Mound residents no longer have to stockpile their Household Hazardous Waste or old electronics, waiting weeks or months for a chance to properly dispose of them. Now, residents can take advantage of the new convenient and free on-demand, door-to-door service for Household Hazardous Waste and E-Waste collections through Waste Management, the new trash and recycling service provider for the Town.
Like many Flower Mound families, one of the Town’s top priorities is to preserve the environment by responsibly disposing of leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients. Items such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, and pesticides that contain potentially hazardous ingredients require special care when disposing of them. Improper disposal of household hazardous wastes can include pouring them down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers, or disposing of them with the trash. The dangers of such disposal methods might not be immediately obvious, but can pollute the environment and pose a health threat.
E-Waste, or electronic waste, also has the potential to detrimentally impact the environment, when disposed of in landfills. Due to continuous technology advancements, many electronic products become obsolete within a very short period of time. Residents can also properly dispose of their E-Waste by scheduling an on-demand pick-up through Waste Management.
To take advantage of these new, year-round services at no-charge, call the collection hotline at 1.800.449.7587. Waste Management personnel will assist with a collection date and provide a special collection kit, which includes a program instruction sheet and other items to help pack and secure household hazardous waste.
