Flower Mound Animal Services Reports Case of Rabies in Skunks

The Town’s Animal Services Division has received confirmation that two skunks in Flower Mound recently tested positive for rabies. The first skunk was reported in the 4400 block of Glen Oaks Dr. on May 19 and was confirmed positive for rabies on May 20. The second skunk was reported in the 3700 block of Rain Tree Dr. on May 25 and was confirmed positive on May 27. Both of the reported locations are in the rural areas of Flower Mound, west of Shiloh Road. Animal Services contained both skunks without no reported exposure to persons or pets. These are only reported cases of rabies in Flower Mound in since January of 2010.

State Law and Flower Mound Town Ordinance require that all dogs and cats receive annual rabies vaccinations. These vaccinations are available for horses and livestock and are recommended by Flower Mound Animal Services. Residents are advised to not approach wild animals, especially those exhibiting erratic or unusual behavior. Direct contact with a wild animal by a human or pet should be reported immediately to Animal Services or the Police Department at 972.539.0525, if after business hours.
