The Flower Mound Police Department is hosting two sessions of the Junior Police Academy this summer for students who will enter the eighth grade in the fall of 2011. The sessions will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. June 20 – 24 and August 1 - 5 at the Flower Mound Police Department, 4150 Kirkpatrick Lane. The academy is designed to motivate young people, enhance leadership skills, and encourage community participation. The JPA transforms the traditional role of the police officer into one of mentor and friend while motivating participants to be outstanding citizens through law enforcement education. The program will provide students with an extensive tour of the Police Department and presentations on drug enforcement, criminal investigation, K-9, traffic stops. In addition, the SWAT team will conduct a live exercise incorporating academy students.
Space is limited and all students must be pre-registered. Online or mail registration is not available at this time. Registration packets will be accepted in-person May 2 through May 23 during regular business hours at the Flower Mound Police Department, 4150 Kirkpatrick Lane. Registration packets are available at the front office of each Flower Mound Middle School, in the lobby of the Police Department, and by downloading here. Once a student has been confirmed for acceptance into the academy, a $20 registration fee is due upon the first day of class. For more information, please contact Officer Justin Buck at 972.874.3357.
