More than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs, and each day approximately 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time. In an effort to remove potentially dangerous prescription drugs and controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets, The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and local law enforcement agencies are hosting a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at Marcus High School and Flower Mound High School. Authorities at both locations will provide residents with a venue to safely dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs. Curbside service will be available at both locations, allowing residents to simply drive through and surrender any medications and syringes. The Flower Mound Police Department has participated in the program since 2009. In May 2010, officers at both locations collected a combined 600 pounds of medication. After being collected the unwanted medication is incinerated by the DEA.
