Traffic Switchover to Completed Eastbound Lanes on FM 1171

The Town has been notified by TxDOT that traffic will be moved to the completed eastbound lanes of the TxDOT FM 1171 Section 1 Project, from the FM 1171/ Huntwick intersection to the FM 1171/FM 2499 intersection, on Tuesday, Sept. 14. All traffic will be moved to the completed eastbound lanes from Huntwick to Old Settlers. Only eastbound traffic will be switch to the eastbound lanes between Old Settlers and FM 2499 with the westbound traffic continuing to use the existing westbound lanes.

The switchover will begin at 9 a.m. with the existing traffic signals at the FM 1171/Churchill, FM 1171/Glenwick, and FM 1171/Bridlewood-Bruton Orand intersections being placed in flashing red. These intersections will remain in flashing red until the switchover of traffic and the adjustment of the traffic signals to the new lane alignments are completed. The switchover should be completed by early afternoon. Long delays can be expected until the traffic switch-over is completed. Flagman will be present at various locations throughout the switch-over to assist in traffic control.

Also, at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14 the Glenwick Blvd. connection to FM 1171 will be closed to traffic just north of the intersection. The closure will remain in place until the new ramp is constructed connecting Glenwick Blvd. to the completed eastbound lanes. This closure is expected to last through Wednesday, Sept. 15. During the Glenwick Blvd. closure, all traffic will be detoured to Crescent Drive by way of Heather Glen Drive to access FM 1171. Residents adjacent to Heather Glen between Glenwick Blvd. and Crescent will be contacted and requested not to park vehicles on Heather Glen Drive on Sept. 14 and 15. Temporary no parking signs will also be in stalled on the south side of Heather Glen during this time period. Those residents that are located in the Glenwick Estates north of the FM 1171/Glenwick intersection will be notified by door hangers of the pending closure.

As part of the switchover the construction of the Crescent Drive connection to the completed eastbound lanes will also begin at 9 a.m. on Sept. 14. This connection will be constructed in phases so that it can remain open to traffic. Flagmen will be present to assist traffic flow through the intersection.

Even after the completion of this switchover congestion will continue through this section of the construction zone, especially at intersections, due to lane restrictions.
