The North Texas Groundwater Conservation District (NTGCD) is scheduled to host a public hearing at 9 a.m. on September 22 at the Denton County Courthouse, 110 W. Hickory St., Denton, TX, regarding the potential adoption of temporary district rules regulating water wells within the District’s boundaries, including Denton County. Potential rules would regulate the conserving, preserving, protecting, and recharging of groundwater. According to the District, the mission of the NTGCD is to develop rules to provide protection to existing wells, prevent waste, promote conservation, and provide a framework that will allow availability and accessibility of groundwater for future generations.Governor Perry signed a bill authorizing the creation of groundwater districts in May 2009, and the Denton County Commissioner’s Court unanimously passed a resolution including Denton County in the NTCGD in August 2009.
