Flower Mound Police Department Utilizes New Specialized Vehicle to Patrol Trails
The Flower Mound Police Department has a new tool for patrolling the Town’s trail system and parks. The Police Department purchased a new Electric Powered Utility Vehicle or EPUV to enhance police efforts on the Town’s trail system and in remote areas that are unreachable by car. The EPUV is equipped with all terrain tires that allow it to easily maneuver in parks and on trails while carrying up to four passengers.
“I believe it is important to continually look for ways to enhance our service to the community,” said Kenneth Brooker, Chief of Police. “With the EPUV patrols, we hope to accomplished this in a manner that is both friendly to the environment and cost effective for the community that the members of the Flower Mound Police Department are proud to serve.”
Electric utility vehicles have been used successfully by other police agencies and the Flower Mound Police Department Citizen Public Safety Patrol (CPSP). The CPSP volunteers currently use an EPUV purchased in 2008. Since its inception, CPSP volunteers have increased patrols of the Town’s trail system and retail parking lots. The newest EPUV was also paid for with seized criminal asset funds.
