Community Service
Guidelines for Community Service
Community service must be served at a non-profit agency. A list of local nonprofit agencies will be provided upon enrollment in Teen Court. Special community service events are often available. For more information, pick up a flyer or call the Teen Court at 972.219.3671.

 Class 1
  • Anti-noise violations
  • Defective lights
  • Equipment violations
  • Fail to control speed
  • Improper turn
  • No helmet
  • No seat belt
  • No turn signal
  • Parking violations
  • Speeding 1-10 mph over the limit
  • Squealing tires
  • 6-18 hours
  • 1-3 jury terms
 Class 2
  • Backing w/o safety
  • Disobey traffic control device
  • Driver license violations
  • Fail to appear
  • Failure to yield right-of-way
  • One-way street
  • Operate unregistered vehicle
  • Parking in a fire lane
  • Racing-exhibition of acceleration
  • Speeding 11-20 mph over the limit
  • Unsafe lane change / passing Violations
  • Wrong side of street
  • 15-30 hours
  • 1-3 jury terms
 Class 3
  • City ordinance violations
  • Criminal mischief under $50
  • Curfew violation (two jury terms)
  • Disruption of classes
  • Failure to identify
  • Failure to maintain financial responsibility
  • Following too closely
  • Possession of tobacco
  • Possession/discharging of fireworks
  • Speeding 21-25 mph
  • Speeding in a school zone more than 1-10 mph over the limit
  • 28-46 hours
  • 2-4 jury terms
 Class 4
  • Alcohol violations
  • Assault
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Leaving scene of accident
  • Passing school bus
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Racing-contest for speed
  • Ran red light
  • Ran stop sign
  • Speeding over 25 mph
  • Speeding in a school zone more than 11 mph over the limit
  • Theft under $50
  • 42-60 hours
  • 2-4 jury terms

Note: Additional sanctions that may be recommended by jury include:
  • First offender program (counseling)
  • General offender/theft intervention class
  • Impact program
  • Letter of apology to victim to parent/guardian
  • MADD victim impact panel
  • Written essay
