Texas Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (TATOA)
The Texas Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (TATOA) honored Flower Mound TV with eight state-wide awards at the 2013 Texas Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors annual conference. During the recognition ceremony, Flower Mound received two first place awards, one for the FMTV Bulletin Board and another for the “2 Pups” video. The Town also received two second place and four third place awards in the categories of Public Health/Public Safety Videos, Magazine Format shows (taking second and third place), Public Service Announcement, Community Event Coverage, and Event Promotion. Flower Mound competed against 19 jurisdictions across the state and was chosen from among 165 award entries. Flower Mound has won a total of 28 TATOA awards.
Texas Parks and Recreation Society
The Flower Mound Parks and Recreation staff received three statewide awards from the Texas Recreation and Park Society. In recognition outstanding promotional efforts for the annual Independence Fest celebration, the department received the Promotional Award. In addition, Recreational Services Supervisor David Powell received the Horizons Award which recognizes an outstanding professional with less than five years of experience. The third statewide award went to Flower Mound resident Gerald Kemp, who was named Advocate of the Year for his ongoing volunteer work at the Shirley Voirin Social Senior Center.
North Texas Child Magazine
Citing the Town’s award-winning parks, excellent schools, and family-friendly atmosphere, readers of “North Texas Child” Magazine recently named Flower Mound the “Best City or Suburb to Raise Children" for the third consecutive year. Announced in the December issue, the 2013 Best for Families honor was determined by votes tallied from local readers, of all magazines published by DFW Child, including “Fort Worth Child,” “Dallas Child,” and “North Texas Child.” The award recognizes the Town’s commitment to continuously ensure that Flower Mound remains a premier place to live, work, shop, play, and dine in North Texas.
Readers of LIVING Magazine named Fort Wildflower as the "Best Park" in the Flower Mound area. As featured in their August 2013 "Best Of" issue, Fort Wildflower is constructed of recycled plastic and wood fiber material, and was built with the help of local volunteers over a five day span. In addition, the playground's unique design is the result of more than 500 ideas from Flower Mound elementary students. The park is located at the northwest corner of Garden Ridge Boulevard and Spinks Road and features hike and bike trails, a picnic pavilion, pedestrian bridge, restrooms, and parking areas.
