Cops in Crosswalks
The Flower Mound Police Department Cops-in-Crosswalks program is designed to enhance the safety of Children, Parents, and Crossing Guards in active school zones throughout the Town of Flower Mound. The Flower Mound Police Department Traffic Section works in conjunction with Crossing Guards to conduct random directed enforcement. A few of the violations which the police department regularly observes in active school zones are: speeding, cell phone usage, safety restraint and stopping in a crosswalk, just to name a few. The department utilizes undercover officers to observe violations and enforce those traffic laws that are important for the safety of all involved.
Direct Traffic Enforcement Program
To promote safe driving in the community, the Flower Mound Police Department posts where members of the Traffic Unit plan to work directed traffic enforcement locations on the Department’s social media pages. “Our goal, like other agencies that are participating who have this program, is to encourage safe driving by communicating with the public,” – Chief of Police Andy Kancel.
The Police Department posts the directed traffic enforcement locations on the FMPD Facebook page and Twitter account. By revealing the locations, motorists have the opportunity to be informed, slow down, and practice safe driving in Flower Mound.
“Our desire is to encourage all motorists to abide by traffic laws and reduce the number of both injury and non-injury crashes,” – Assistant Chief Wendell Mitchell, Operations Bureau. “Although unpopular at times, it is the Police Department’s responsibility to promote public safety on all Town roadways.” Although these posted traffic enforcement locations will be the specific areas worked by FMPD Traffic Unit officers, patrol officers will continue to enforce traffic laws in their assigned beats as a component of their normally assigned duties.
Residents who utilize social media are encouraged to follow the Flower Mound Police Department on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/FlowerMoundPoliceDepartment) and on Twitter (https://twitter.com/FlowerMoundPD). Program Disclaimer: Abiding by traffic laws in publicized enforcement areas does not mean you are exempt from being stopped for a traffic violation committed outside the posted locations.
