2011 MARKS THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY
OF THE TOWN OF FLOWER MOUND

Fifty years ago, Judge Claude Williams ruled against the City of Irving in an annexation attempt that would have included portions of Flower Mound, Lewisville, and what is now DFW Airport. The annexation attempt prompted Town leaders to begin petitions requesting that Flower Mound be incorporated.
On February 25, 1961, with a vote of 105 to 1, Flower Mound was incorporated with a mayor-commission form of government at the Presbyterian Church on Round Grove Road. The Denton County Commissioners Court officially approved the incorporation of the Town two days later on February 27, 1961.
Bob Rheudasil served as the Town’s first mayor and was elected to three consecutive terms. He was a leader in defeating Irving’s attempt to annex the area, which led to the ultimate incorporation of the Town.
As envisioned by the founding fathers, the Town of Flower Mound has grown and prospered over the last fifty years, offering an exceptional quality of life for its residents, businesses, and visitors.
We thank all of the leaders who have served the Town for their foresight in ensuring the success of this wonderful community we call home.
