Flower Mound Girl Scout Troops recently labeled more than 200 storm drains with helpful reminders that litter adversely impacts the Town’s ponds, lake, and streams. Troops 26 and 844 completed the community service project in order to increase awareness that precipitation runoff from streets, parking lots, and roofs collects pollution that eventually drains to the Town’s water sources. The untreated storm water runoff negatively affects the quality of water for wildlife, recreation purposes, and drinking water supply.
It is important to collect debris such as toys or pet waste from your property, sweep leaves and lawn clippings that would otherwise enter the street and sidewalks, appropriately dispose of household chemicals, motor oil, and antifreeze, and never let anything other than rain flow down the storm drain. The Town is grateful to Troops 26 and 844 for their dedication and participation in promoting an important message and providing a higher standard for Flower Mound’s quality of life.
