Construction Updates

Roads

Lusk Lane Water Line Improvements – Construction is scheduled to begin March 2009 and will include 24 and 20 inch water line installation along the east side of Lusk Lane from Kings Road to FM 1171. Construction is scheduled to be complete July 7, 2009.  For questions, please contact Tiffany Bruce at tiffany.bruce@flower-mound.com or 972.874.6306.

Spinks Road Phase IV - This project will complete the four-lane concrete curb and gutter roadway section between Garden Ridge Road and Duncan Road.  Bidding is currently underway.  Construction is expected to begin by June 2009.  For questions, please contact Robert Pegg at robert.pegg@flower-mound.com or 972.874.6312.

Closure of Dixon Lane (west of FM 2499) -Construction has begun and will include closure of Dixon Lane from Chinn Chapel to west of the Target parking lot. This project will complete the four-lane concrete curb and gutter roadway section between Chinn Chapel Road and Target/Dick’s Sporting Goods. For Waketon Road closure information, see FM 2499 Section III below. Construction is expected to be complete late September 2009. Flower Mound Road- This project includes the reconstruction of the existing two-lane asphalt roadway from Skillern to FM 1171. The proposed roadway will consist of four-lane concrete paving with curb and gutter and a center median. The design is underway, and construction is scheduled to begin fall 2009. Homestead, Dover, Savannah-Street Reconstruction Projects
The sections to be completed with this project include:

  • Dover Drive- FM 1171 to Hamlet Lane complete
  • Homestead Street- Between Hilltop Court and Kings Drive is open to west bound, one-way traffic only until further notice. The east bound lane is closed and is being rebuilt. This phase of construction is estimated to take four weeks.
  • Savannah Court- (Currently closed until May 15, 2009 for reconstruction and waterline installation.)

Twin Coves/Northlake Highlands I Water Improvements – Construction began April 2009 and will include the completion of 8 inch water lines to residents in these subdivisions west of Park Bend neighborhood and south of Hideaway Lane.   Construction is expected to be complete December 2009.  For questions, please contact Cynthia Pierce at cynthia.pierce@flower-mound.com or 972.874.6302.

Morriss Road STEP Grant Median Beautification Project -The Town and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have begun a median beautification project on Morriss Road from FM 407 to FM 2499.  The final phase of the project is the construction of a “Welcome to Flower Mound” entrance monument that will be constructed on International Parkway at the Town limits. The work is scheduled to be completed by end of November 2009.

FM2499 Section III -The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Project widening the existing two lane roadway to a six lane divided thoroughfare from FM 1171 to FM 407 began on October 29, 2007 and is currently scheduled to be completed by July 2010. Both north and southbound traffic flows will be maintained throughout the project.

The project will be broken down into three main phases. Phase I will be the construction of the three southbound lanes along with associated side streets and driveway entrances. Phase II will be the construction of the three northbound lanes along with associated side streets and driveway entrances. Phase III will be the construction of the center median and associated left turn lanes. Phase I is currently under construction and scheduled to be completed June 2009.

FM 2499 and FM 407 will have various lane closures.

Phase I has been completed and all traffic has been moved to the completed southbound lanes from FM 407 to FM 1171.

Dixon will be closed to traffic in both directions just east of the FM 2499/Dixon intersection to construct the eastern half of the intersection. Eastbound traffic on Dixon will be detoured to FM 407 at Morriss Road.

FM 407 12" Water Line (Country Meadow Drive to FM 2499) –Final Design is complete. Right-of- way acquisition is currently underway. Anticipated start of construction November 2009.  Contact Tracy LaPiene with questions at tracy.lapiene@flower-mound.com or 972-874-6304.

Kirkpatrick Lane - Reconstruction of Kirkpatrick Lane Phase I from Morriss to Kirkpatrick Lane (north-south) is underway and will be complete summer 2009.  Reconstruction to the existing two-lane road will include the removal of the existing asphalt and replacement with two-lane concrete paving and gutter upgrades and sidewalk along the south side of the road. The first phase of construction is complete and includes the section in front of the school and the Timber Creek intersection. The second phase of the project, completion of half the traffic lanes, is complete. The final phase includes completion of the remaining traffic lanes.  Traffic on Kirkpatrick between (north-south) Kirkpatrick and Morriss Road will be westbound only for the duration of the project. The short section on Kirkpatrick in front of the school will maintain two-way traffic to allow school traffic to exit to the Timber Creek intersection. Traffic changes will occur throughout the project. For questions, please contact Tiffany Bruce at tiffany.bruce@flower-mound.com or 972.874.6306.

Both east and westbound traffic flows will be maintained throughout the project.

The project will be broken down into three main phases. Phase I will be the construction of the three eastbound lanes along with associated side streets and driveway entrances. Phase II will be the construction of the three westbound lanes along with associated side streets and driveway entrances. Phase III will be the construction of the center median and associated left turn lanes. Phase I is currently under construction.

FM 1171 Section 2 & 3 – Final design of the project is at 65%. Right-of-way acquisition is currently underway. Start of construction is yet to be determined.

Intersections

FM 1171 & US 377 - East and westbound FM 1171 right and left turn lanes onto US 377. Pending TxDOT approval.

Facilities

Fire Station #4- Construction is underway for the Town’s fourth fire station. Rustic Timbers Multi-Use Trail
Construction of the concrete trail has been completed with the safety handrails nearing completion. The north section of the new trail connects to the existing trail at Parker Square Park on the north side of Cross Timbers Road (FM 1171) and proceeds approximately 500 feet south, crossing under the existing FM 1171 vehicular bridge, over the creek with a 35-foot long pedestrian bridge, and finally connects to the existing trail at the north end of Rustic Timbers Park. The south section of the new trail connects to the existing trail at Rustic Timbers Park near the trail head on Golden Aspen Drive and proceeds approximately 700 feet southeast, crossing over the creek with a 60-foot long pedestrian bridge, and finally connects to the existing sidewalk on the west side of the Kirkpatrick Lane and Spanish Oak Drive intersection. A concrete trail to connect the new multi-use trail to the existing sidewalk along FM 1171 was added to the project and has been completed. Construction of this trail project is scheduled to be complete in May 2009.

Playground Equipment Replacement for Jake's Hilltop, Northshore, and Rustic Timbers Parks
Construction has begun for these three playground projects. New playground equipment, including separate play elements and climbing structures for younger and older children, will replace the aging equipment at Jake's Hilltop (orig. built Aug. '97), Northshore (orig. built May '95), and Rustic Timbers (orig. built Nov. '96) Parks. These playgrounds can be found at: 1) Jake's Hilltop Park, 4975 Timber Creek Road; 2) Northshore Park, 3100 Wood Park Boulevard; and 3) Rustic Timbers Park, 1201 Rosewood Trail. Construction of these playground projects are scheduled to be complete May/June 2009.
