  20. How to Find the Right Colleges for You

    There are over 2,000 four-year colleges in the United States for students to consider. How can families identify those schools at which their student will be happiest and most successful? This seminar will teach attendees how to be savvy college shoppers. We'll share ways to recognize what types of colleges might be good fits and show attendees how to evaluate the many factors that need to be considered like size, location, and majors. We'll also discuss how to plan effective college visits. Presenter Chris Blackwell has worked in the field of College Admissions for twelve years and currently serves students all over the metroplex as the Director of Collegewise-DFW.     With the one year anniversary of the Hound Mound at Heritage Park right around the corner, Flower Mound Animal Services staff encourages park-goers to attend one of two informational presentations highlighting important rules and issues that have come up since the gates officially opened last January. The first presentation is Tuesday, January 24 at 7 p.m. at the Library, located at 3030 Broadmoor Ln. The second presentation is set for Wednesday, January 25 at 7 p.m. at the Community Activity Center, Pecan Room, 1200 Gerault Rd. These meetings are geared toward people already using the Hound Mound, in addition to those who may have added a four-legged member to the family over the holidays. Topics will include how to prepare for a visit to the Hound Mound, staying safe while there, and steps to take after you leave. Animal Services staff will also go over some of the most common rule violations, and answer any questions residents may have may have.

    FMPD will create FREE digital child ID kits for interested residents. The ID kit includes pertinent information such as your child's name, address, birth date, and any medical conditions, in addition a current photo and fingerprints will be taken on site. If ever needed, this important tool will give authorities vital information to assist their efforts to locate a missing child.

    The Lewisville Lake Symphony’s International Chamber Concert series continues on Friday, January 27, with a performance by award-winning violinist Hao Miao. Miao began playing at the age of four, and recently was named the 2015 winner of the Concerto Competition at the University of North Texas College of Music. Pianist and composer, Arsentiy Kharitonov, will accompany Miao. Kharitonov is widely recognized for work with orchestras in Russia, Europe, Asia, and the United States.
