Important Dates for May 5, 2018, General Election

Jan 1

First day to apply for ballot by mail with Denton or Tarrant County.

Jan 17 – Feb 16

(Mon – Fri 8am – 5pm)

Filing period for Mayor, Place 2, and Place 4 on the ballot.

Jan 15

Town Holiday (Martin Luther King Jr. Day)

Jan 17

First day to file for a place on the ballot, as well as declaration of write-in candidacy.

Feb 16 (5pm)

Last day to file for a place on the ballot.

Feb 23 (5pm)

Last day for a ballot candidate to withdraw.

Last day for a write-in candidate to withdraw and have name removed from write-in list.

Feb 26 (5pm)

Conduct ballot order drawing in Town Secretary’s Office.

Apr 5

Last day to register to vote for May 5th Election.

Due date for filing 1st report of campaign contributions and expenditures (30th day before election) by opposed candidates and specific-purpose committees supporting or opposing opposed candidates by 5pm as applicable.

Apr 23

First day of regular Early Voting (by personal appearance).

Apr 29 (Sun) 11am – 4pm

Apr 30-May 1 (Mon-Tue) 7am – 7pm

Apr 24

Last day to receive application from voter delivered in person for a ballot to be voted by mail.

Apr 27

Due date for filing 2nd report of campaign contributions and expenditures (8th day before election) by opposed candidates and specific-purpose committees supporting or opposing opposed candidates by 5pm as applicable.

Candidate Forum (Town Hall) & rebroadcasted via FMTV and Town website. Host to be determined. Date is selected by organization requesting to host the debate and can be no sooner than the day following the last day on which candidates may withdraw. Typically that individual/organization will reach out to the candidates to inform them of the date and time, etc.v

May 1

Last day of regular Early Voting (by personal appearance).

May 5

Last day to receive application by mail for a ballot to be voted by mail, by 12 noon or close of business, whichever is later.

ELECTION DAY (anticipated polling places: Municipal Court Building & Library).

May 8*

Canvass election results and 5pm reception for incoming/outgoing council members (as applicable), including Oaths of Office for newly elected officials during the regular Town Council meeting.

*subject to change depending on Early Voting Ballot Board’s review of provisional, military or overseas ballots

May 17

Group Council photograph taken prior to work session.  Alternate date May 21 prior to regular meeting. Location to be advised nearer the date.

v Candidate forums are held by various groups or organizations (examples listed below). If the Town Secretary’s Office is made aware of these forum dates that information is included in the candidate packet solely as a courtesy to the candidates and for informational purposes. Event organizers are responsible for contacting the candidates directly.
